Arsenal FC's 1999/00 home football shirt, manufactured by Nike, features French midfielder Patrick Vieira #4. Worn during Arsène Wenger's fourth season in charge, the shirt represents an important period in Arsenal's transformation into one of English football's leading clubs. Vieira had established himself as a commanding presence in midfield, combining physical strength, technical ability and exceptional leadership. Having played a central role in Arsenal's historic Premier League and FA Cup double in 1997/98, the Frenchman was becoming one of the most influential midfielders in European football.
The shirt features Arsenal's traditional red body with contrasting white sleeves and a classic white fold-over collar. Navy blue detailing runs along the sides and beneath the sleeves, complemented by red and navy trim on the cuffs. The embroidered Arsenal crest sits opposite the white Nike Swoosh, while the iconic Dreamcast sponsor takes centre stage across the chest. The back features Vieira's name and number 4 in white with black outlines, accompanied by official Premier League numbering and sleeve patches. The design captures the distinctive aesthetic of late-1990s Arsenal, combining traditional club colours with Nike's increasingly modern football shirt construction.
The 1999/00 season saw Arsenal finish second in the Premier League behind Manchester United, while also reaching the UEFA Cup final against Galatasaray. After a goalless draw in Copenhagen, Arsenal suffered defeat on penalties, narrowly missing out on European silverware. Vieira remained a central figure throughout the campaign, forming a formidable midfield partnership with Emmanuel Petit. His performances helped establish Arsenal as consistent title contenders and laid the foundations for the club's domestic success in the following seasons, including the 2001/02 double and the legendary unbeaten Premier League campaign of 2003/04.
