This is the Manchester City home shirt from the 2008/09 season, made by Le Coq Sportif. The French brand returned to City in the late 2000s and delivered one of the cleanest modern interpretations of the club’s classic sky blue look. The front sponsor is Thomas Cook, a very “of its time” Premier League logo that instantly dates the shirt to that late-2000s era.
The shirt sticks to a pure sky-blue base but uses subtle paneling and curved seam lines to give it a more athletic, sculpted silhouette compared to the boxier early-2000s kits. Dark navy piping and trim add contrast without overpowering the traditional colourway. The club crest sits centrally beneath the neckline, with three stars above — a stylistic choice City used during this period rather than a direct reference to European titles. It’s a design that feels transitional: still old-school City in colour, but clearly moving toward the sleeker, modern Premier League kit era.
2008/09 was a turning-point season for Manchester City. It was the club’s first full campaign after the Abu Dhabi takeover, marking the beginning of their transformation into a global powerhouse. Big names like Robinho arrived, and while the team wasn’t dominant yet, the foundations of the modern City era were being laid.
