Paul Pogba’s 2021/22 season at Manchester United was a year of highs and lows, marked by both strong performances and injury setbacks.
Pogba started the 2021/22 campaign positively, providing a crucial role in midfield for United under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær. He delivered an impressive performance in Manchester United's opening games of the Premier League, registering 7 assists in the first 6 matches, including a standout performance against Leeds United (a 5-1 victory), where he provided 4 assists. His vision, passing, and ability to dominate midfield were on full display, and he looked to be in top form.
Unfortunately for Pogba, his season was significantly disrupted by injury. In November 2021, he sustained a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for several weeks. He only returned to action in February 2022, after missing much of the winter months.
Pogba’s return to the pitch in 2022 was overshadowed by the team’s overall struggles, as Manchester United failed to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League, finishing 6th and missing out on Champions League qualification for the 2022/23 season. His performances in the latter stages of the campaign were relatively uninspiring, and although he showed glimpses of his technical ability and strength, he was unable to elevate the team.
Despite the ups and downs of the 2021/22 season, Pogba contributed with a total of 9 assists in 20 Premier League appearances. In the end, Pogba did not sign an extension and was officially confirmed to be leaving the club on a free transfer to Juventus in the summer of 2022.
