This Manchester United 2021/22 away shirt was made by adidas and features Cristiano Ronaldo’s #7 nameset together with Champions League sleeve detailing. The shirt is closely associated with Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021, when he reclaimed the famous #7 shirt eleven years after leaving United for Real Madrid.

The 2021/22 campaign was a turbulent one for United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjær leaving during the season before Ralf Rangnick took interim charge. United eventually finished sixth in the Premier League and reached the Champions League Round of 16, where they were eliminated by Atlético Madrid. Ronaldo nevertheless produced a prolific individual return, scoring 24 goals across all competitions, including 18 in the Premier League.

His Champions League performances were particularly memorable. Ronaldo scored six times in seven appearances in the competition, including dramatic late goals against Villarreal and Atalanta during the group stage. His goal in the 2–0 away victory over Villarreal also helped secure United’s progression to the knockout stage. The European sleeve detailing on this example therefore has a particularly strong connection to one of the defining parts of Ronaldo’s comeback season.
