This is the Japan 2006 home shirt made by adidas, featuring Hidetoshi Nakata #7 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany sleeve patch. The shirt was Japan’s home design for the 2006 World Cup, where Nakata wore number 7 as one of the most established players in Zico’s squad.
The design uses Japan’s traditional deep blue base with contrasting light-blue panels sweeping around the sides and across the upper chest. Silver detailing follows the curved panel construction, while adidas’ white three stripes run over the shoulders and sleeves. The JFA crest sits on the chest alongside the adidas logo and a small number 7, with red accents around the collar and sleeve edges completing a particularly distinctive mid-2000s adidas design.
This example is especially relevant for its Nakata #7 nameset and World Cup detailing. Nakata played in all three of Japan’s matches at the 2006 tournament, against Australia, Croatia and Brazil. Japan finished the group stage with one point, and the tournament ultimately became the final chapter of Nakata’s career: he retired from professional football shortly afterwards at just 29 years old.
