Germany's 2006 home football shirt, manufactured by adidas, features German defender Philipp Lahm #16. Worn during the 2006 FIFA World Cup on home soil, the shirt represents one of the most memorable periods in modern German football history. Lahm, then just 22 years old, had established himself as one of the country's most promising defenders, combining defensive intelligence, technical precision and attacking ability. His performances throughout the tournament helped introduce him to a global audience and marked the beginning of an international career that would eventually see him captain Germany to World Cup glory in 2014.
The shirt features Germany's traditional white base with subtle vertical pinstripes woven into the fabric. Black adidas three-stripe detailing runs along the shoulders and sleeves, complemented by curved black panels across the upper body and back. Red and gold accents along the sides reference the colours of the German flag, while the embroidered German Football Association crest is accompanied by three gold stars representing the nation's World Cup victories in 1954, 1974 and 1990. The back features Lahm's name and number 16 in distinctive black tournament-style lettering, completing one of Germany's most recognisable World Cup shirt designs.
The 2006 FIFA World Cup marked a turning point for German football under manager Jürgen Klinsmann. Playing in front of their home supporters, Germany reached the semi-finals before suffering a dramatic 2–0 extra-time defeat to eventual champions Italy. They subsequently defeated Portugal 3–1 in the third-place playoff. Lahm played a significant role throughout the tournament, famously scoring the opening goal of the World Cup against Costa Rica with a spectacular curling strike in Germany's 4–2 victory. His performances established him as a key figure in the national team and helped lay the foundations for Germany's success in the following decade.
