Germany's 2004 third football shirt, manufactured by adidas, features German striker Miroslav Klose #11. Released during a transitional period for the German national team, the shirt represents the early international career of a player who would eventually become the FIFA World Cup's all-time leading goalscorer. Having made his international debut in 2001, Klose established himself on the world stage at the 2002 World Cup, scoring five goals as Germany reached the final.
The shirt features a striking red colourway with black adidas stripes running across the shoulders and sleeves. Yellow mesh inserts beneath the arms reference the colours of the German flag, while the red collar incorporates black and yellow detailing. The German Football Association crest sits beneath three silver stars representing the country's World Cup victories, accompanied by the white adidas logo. Klose's name and number 11 appear on the back in white lettering, with a distinctive perforated graphic pattern incorporated into the numbers. The shirt also features breathable mesh panels, adidas ClimaCool technology and a German flag detail on the sleeve.
The 2004 international campaign was a difficult period for Germany, who entered UEFA Euro 2004 under manager Rudi Völler. Despite expectations of a strong performance, Germany were eliminated in the group stage after drawing against the Netherlands and Latvia before losing 2–1 to the Czech Republic. Klose was part of the tournament squad but struggled to make an impact, with Germany's elimination ultimately leading to Jürgen Klinsmann's appointment as national team manager. The period marked the beginning of a significant rebuild that would culminate in Germany's memorable run to the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup on home soil.
