In one of the biggest shocks of the tournament, Greece defeated France 1-0 in the quarterfinals, eliminating the defending champions. Zidane, alongside other senior players like Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira, was unable to inspire France to victory. Despite France's early exit, Zidane still demonstrated his technical skill, vision, and leadership. He scored two goals in the group stage and was instrumental in linking the midfield to the attack.
