Nicolás Sarmiento (commonly known simply as “Nico” Sarmiento) is an Argentine futsal goalkeeper, widely recognized for his reflexes, agility, and shot-stopping abilities. Born on December 3, 1992, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he has become one of the standout players for the Argentine national futsal team.
Sarmiento began his futsal journey in his home country, coming through local club systems. He honed his skills in Buenos Aires before making the leap to Europe. In the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup, Sarmiento was a key member of the Argentine squad that made history by winning the nation’s first-ever Futsal World Cup title. His performances in goal were instrumental throughout the tournament.
In 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup, he again starred for Argentina, who finished as runners-up after losing to Portugal in a closely contested final. Sarmiento’s displays earned him widespread acclaim, and he was honored with the Golden Glove award as the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
Despite several important saves from Sarmiento in The 2022 Copa América de Futsal, Argentina ultimately fell 3–0 to a strong Brazilian side, which claimed its tenth Copa América Futsal title hosted in Paraguay.
