This Manchester United 2019/20 third shirt was made by adidas and features Bruno Fernandes’ #18 nameset. The shirt comes from Fernandes’ first season at Old Trafford, following his January 2020 move from Sporting CP, and is particularly associated with the immediate impact he made as United climbed to third place in the Premier League and reached the latter stages of the Europa League.
The 2019/20 campaign was Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s first full season as manager and developed into an important transitional year. United finished third in the Premier League to secure a return to the Champions League and also reached the semi-finals of both the FA Cup and Europa League. The squad featured Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire and Mason Greenwood, but Fernandes’ mid-season arrival provided a major creative boost during the closing months of the campaign.
Fernandes took the #18 shirt following his arrival and quickly established himself as one of United’s key players. Despite joining halfway through the season, he scored eight goals in 14 Premier League appearances and 12 goals across 22 appearances in all competitions for United. His European form was particularly notable: after joining United he scored against Club Brugge, FC Copenhagen and Sevilla in the Europa League knockout rounds, with his penalty against Sevilla giving United the lead in the semi-final before they eventually lost 2–1.
