This Liverpool 2012/13 away shirt was made by Warrior and features Jamie Carragher’s #23 nameset together with UEFA Europa League and Respect sleeve patches. The black and raven-grey design was introduced for Warrior’s first season as Liverpool’s kit manufacturer, with gold detailing for the Liverbird, Warrior branding and Standard Chartered sponsor. Warrior stated that the design drew inspiration from Liverpool’s maritime heritage and the clothing associated with workers at the city’s docks.
The 2012/13 campaign was Brendan Rodgers’ first season in charge at Anfield and marked the beginning of a transitional period for Liverpool. Steven Gerrard and Luis Suárez remained central figures, while younger players including Raheem Sterling were becoming increasingly important and Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho arrived during the January transfer window. Liverpool ultimately finished seventh in the Premier League and competed in the Europa League, where they were eliminated by Zenit St Petersburg in the Round of 32.
For Carragher, however, the season carries particular significance. It was his 17th and final campaign with Liverpool before retiring in May 2013, bringing an end to a one-club senior career in which he made more than 700 appearances. The #23 nameset therefore connects this shirt to the closing chapter of one of Liverpool’s longest-serving modern players.
The configuration is also particularly interesting for collectors. The shirt carries the Europa League patch and UEFA Respect patch rather than the Premier League sleeve patches, while the nameset uses Liverpool’s European-style numbering. Liverpool used a distinct European print during the 2012/13 campaign, making this visually different from the domestic Carragher #23 configuration.
For collectors, the combination of Carragher #23, European sleeve detailing, Warrior’s distinctive first-season design and the significance of Carragher’s final year at Liverpool gives this shirt a strong connection to a specific moment in the club’s history.
