This is the Manchester City 2019/20 Home Shirt, featuring John Stones #5 during Pep Guardiola’s fourth season in charge of the club. The England defender had already established himself as part of Guardiola’s title-winning squad, having played an important role in the record-breaking 2017/18 campaign and the domestic treble of 2018/19. Although injuries and competition for places restricted his appearances during 2019/20, Stones remained part of a Manchester City side competing at the highest level in England and Europe.
Manufactured by PUMA, the 2019/20 home shirt marked the beginning of the brand’s partnership with Manchester City. The design uses the club’s traditional sky blue with contrasting purple detailing across the shoulders, PUMA branding and Etihad Airways sponsor. The crest is accompanied by special “125 YEARS” detailing commemorating the club’s anniversary, while the shirt also features the Nexen Tire sleeve sponsor. This example is finished with Stones #5 and Premier League sleeve patches.
The 2019/20 season saw Manchester City finish second in the Premier League while adding further silverware under Guardiola. City defeated Aston Villa at Wembley to win a third consecutive League Cup and also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The squad featured many of the defining players of the Guardiola era, including Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Agüero, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Fernandinho.
For collectors, the 2019/20 shirt represents an important transitional point in Manchester City’s modern history as the club’s first home shirt produced by PUMA.
