This Barcelona 2020/21 home shirt was made by Nike and features Lionel Messi’s #10 nameset together with La Liga sleeve detailing. The shirt carries particular significance as it was worn during Messi’s final season with Barcelona, bringing an extraordinary first-team career at the club to an end after more than 750 appearances and a record-breaking collection of goals and trophies.
The design returned Barcelona to traditional vertical blaugrana stripes after the checked pattern of the previous season. Deep blue and red stripes are separated by thin yellow lines, with a yellow collar and Nike Swoosh adding further contrast. The Rakuten sponsor appears across the chest, with UNICEF positioned beneath the number on the back and a Senyera detail below the rear collar. The design also drew inspiration from Barcelona’s celebrated 2010/11 shirt.
Barcelona experienced a mixed 2020/21 campaign under Ronald Koeman, finishing third in La Liga and exiting the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16. Their major success came in the Copa del Rey, where they defeated Athletic Club 4–0 in the final. Messi captained the side and scored twice in the final, securing what would ultimately become his final trophy in a Barcelona shirt.
Even in his final season at the club, Messi remained Barcelona’s defining player. He scored 38 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions, including 30 league goals to win the Pichichi Trophy for a record eighth time. The campaign also saw him surpass Xavi as Barcelona’s all-time appearance holder before his departure in the summer of 2021.
