This Barcelona 2018/19 home shirt was made by Nike and features Lionel Messi’s #10 nameset together with La Liga sleeve detailing. The season holds particular significance in Messi’s Barcelona career as it was his first as the club’s primary captain following the departure of Andrés Iniesta, and it developed into one of the finest individual campaigns of his career.
Under Ernesto Valverde, Barcelona retained the La Liga title, finishing 11 points ahead of Atlético Madrid, while also winning the Spanish Super Cup. Their Champions League campaign produced some memorable performances before ending dramatically against Liverpool in the semi-finals, while Valencia defeated Barça in the Copa del Rey final.
Messi was extraordinary throughout the campaign. He scored 51 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions, including 36 in La Liga, winning both the Pichichi Trophy and European Golden Shoe. It was his sixth European Golden Shoe and his third in succession, while the season also saw him surpass 600 goals for Barcelona. His Champions League campaign included a memorable brace against Liverpool at Camp Nou, with his long-range free kick producing his 600th Barcelona goal.
For collectors, the combination of Messi #10, the ten-stripe city-inspired design and the significance of his first season as Barcelona captain makes this one of the standout Messi shirts of the late 2010s. It captures him during a remarkable 51-goal campaign in which Barcelona won La Liga and Messi collected another European Golden Shoe, making it strongly associated with one of the defining individual seasons of his career.
