This Manchester United 2016/17 home shirt was made by adidas and features Marcus Rashford’s #19 nameset together with FA Cup sleeve detailing. It comes from Rashford’s first full season in the senior team, following his remarkable breakthrough during the second half of 2015/16, and from José Mourinho’s first campaign as Manchester United manager.
United enjoyed a trophy-winning 2016/17 campaign. Mourinho’s side won the Community Shield, League Cup and Europa League, beating Ajax 2–0 in the European final in Stockholm to secure a return to the Champions League. The squad combined established players such as Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and David de Gea with major arrivals including Zlatan Ibrahimović, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, while Rashford continued to establish himself as an important first-team player.
Rashford switched from #39 to #19 for the 2016/17 season and made 53 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals. He was particularly important during United’s Europa League run, scoring an extra-time winner against Anderlecht in the quarter-finals before providing the free kick from which Marouane Fellaini scored the decisive goal against Celta Vigo in the semi-final. He also scored three times in the FA Cup, including a goal against Chelsea in the quarter-final.
