This Chelsea 2006/08 home shirt was made by adidas and features Andriy Shevchenko’s #7 nameset together with UEFA Champions League sleeve patches. Introduced for the 2006/07 season, it marked the beginning of Chelsea’s adidas era and coincided with the arrival of Shevchenko from AC Milan in one of the most high-profile transfers of the period.
The design features Chelsea’s traditional royal blue base with white adidas Three Stripes running across the shoulders and sleeves. White piping follows the curved panel construction through the body, while the classic Samsung Mobile sponsor sits prominently across the chest. The Champions League patches and distinctive European-style Shevchenko printing give this example the appearance associated with Chelsea’s continental campaign.
Chelsea remained among Europe’s strongest sides during the first season of this shirt. José Mourinho’s team finished second in the Premier League while winning both the FA Cup and League Cup, and reached the Champions League semi-finals after progressing past Porto and Valencia. Their European run ended against Liverpool, with the tie finishing 1–1 on aggregate before Chelsea were eliminated on penalties at Anfield.
Shevchenko arrived at Stamford Bridge as one of world football’s most celebrated strikers, having won the 2004 Ballon d’Or and established himself as an AC Milan legend. Wearing #7 for Chelsea, he featured throughout their 2006/07 Champions League campaign and scored an important equaliser away to Valencia in the quarter-final second leg, helping Chelsea complete a 2–1 comeback victory and advance 3–2 on aggregate.
For collectors, the combination of Shevchenko #7, Champions League detailing, Samsung Mobile sponsor and Chelsea’s first adidas home design makes this a particularly evocative shirt from the mid-2000s. It represents the height of the Abramovich-Mourinho era, when a squad featuring Shevchenko, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Petr Čech and Michael Ballack was competing for major honours domestically and in Europe
