This is the Bayern Munich 1999/01 home shirt made by adidas, featuring Roque Santa Cruz #24. The shirt was introduced for the 1999/00 season and remained in use during 2000/01, covering one of the most successful periods in Bayern’s modern history. Santa Cruz joined Bayern from Olimpia in 1999 as an 18-year-old and wore number 24 during his time with the club.
The design uses Bayern’s traditional red base with contrasting navy panels across the shoulders and sleeves, separated by thin white piping. adidas’ white three stripes run along the shoulders, while a navy fold-over collar adds to the distinctive late-1990s construction. The Bayern crest and adidas logo are embroidered on the chest, with the large Opel sponsor completing a design strongly associated with the club at the turn of the millennium.
This example is especially relevant for its Santa Cruz #24 nameset. The Paraguayan forward was part of a Bayern side that won consecutive Bundesliga titles in 1999/00 and 2000/01, as well as the DFB-Pokal in 2000. The period culminated with Bayern winning the 2000/01 UEFA Champions League, defeating Valencia on penalties in the final. Santa Cruz remained with Bayern until 2007 and won five Bundesliga titles during his eight seasons in Munich.
