Adidas - Argentina 2002 Home Football Shirt 'BATISTUTA'

This Argentina 2002 home shirt was manufactured by adidas and features the national team's traditional sky-blue and white vertical stripes. Designed for the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan, the shirt combines Argentina's unmistakable colours with black adidas three-stripe detailing across the shoulders and sleeves. A sky-blue V-neck collar and matching sleeves complete the design, while the curved white mesh panels along the sides reflect adidas' performance-focused approach at the beginning of the 2000s.

The Argentine Football Association crest is embroidered on the chest opposite the black adidas logo, with a centrally positioned number 9 beneath. The shirt features a lightweight construction with breathable side panels, designed to improve ventilation during matches. Under head coach Marcelo Bielsa, Argentina entered the 2002 FIFA World Cup as one of the tournament favourites, having dominated South American qualifying. The squad featured established stars such as Juan Sebastián Verón, Javier Zanetti, Diego Simeone, Ariel Ortega and Hernán Crespo, with Batistuta leading the attack in what would become his final international tournament.

Argentina opened their campaign with a 1–0 victory over Nigeria, with Batistuta scoring the winning goal in the 63rd minute. However, a 1–0 defeat to England, followed by a 1–1 draw against Sweden, saw Argentina eliminated in the group stage. The early exit was one of the tournament's biggest surprises, particularly given the team's impressive performances during qualification. 

The tournament marked the conclusion of Batistuta's remarkable international career. Having represented Argentina at three World Cups, he finished with 56 goals in 78 international appearances, including ten World Cup goals. His goalscoring record, powerful playing style and memorable performances made him one of the defining Argentine footballers of the 1990s and early 2000s.
