This is the Umbro – Manchester City 2012/13 home football shirt, here with Maicon 3 on the back. It comes from a very distinctive early-2010s City period, when the club had already broken into the top tier of English football and were beginning to build the squad depth and stature that would define the modern era. The shirt itself reflects that moment well: confident, clean and premium without being overdesigned.
The design is all about restraint. The classic sky blue base is paired with a black fold-over collar, black sponsor print and black detailing on the crest and nameset. That contrast gives the shirt a sharper, more mature feel than many other City home shirts. Umbro kept the layout very minimal, which works in its favour. There is no heavy graphic treatment or unnecessary panel work competing for attention, so the club colours and silhouette do the job.
The Etihad Airways sponsor places it firmly in the first chapter of City’s current era, while the Barclays Premier League sleeve patches add that unmistakable period detail. Shirts from this stretch of time often appeal because they sit right between old-school simplicity and modern branding. This one captures that balance especially well.
What makes this example more interesting is the Maicon nameset. His time at Manchester City was brief, which makes shirts with his name less common and a little more niche than versions with Kompany, Agüero or Touré. That gives it a different kind of collector appeal. Rather than being the obvious star-player pick, it feels more specific to the squad-building story of that season. For the right collector, that can actually make it more compelling.
Overall, this is a strong example of a modern Manchester City home shirt before the club’s visual identity became more experimental. Clean sky blue, black detailing, a proper collar, and an uncommon Maicon 3 print make it a shirt with both era-specific relevance and understated charm.
