This Manchester City 2012/13 away shirt was made by Umbro and features Mario Balotelli’s #45 nameset together with Premier League Champions sleeve patches, worn after City’s dramatic title triumph the previous season. The shirt comes from Balotelli’s final campaign at Manchester City and the last season of the club’s highly regarded Umbro era.
Manchester City entered 2012/13 as defending Premier League champions following the extraordinary final-day title victory over Queens Park Rangers. Roberto Mancini’s side ultimately finished second behind Manchester United and reached the FA Cup final, while their Champions League campaign ended in the group stage after being drawn alongside Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax. City nevertheless finished with the Premier League’s strongest defence, conceding only 34 league goals.
Balotelli’s association with this shirt is particularly interesting because 2012/13 proved to be his final season in Manchester. After playing a major role in the previous season’s title triumph — including providing the assist for Sergio Agüero’s legendary championship-winning goal against QPR — his opportunities became more limited. He made 14 Premier League appearances and scored once before leaving City for AC Milan in January 2013.
