The 2002/03 home shirt introduced a modernized take on Barcelona’s traditional Blaugrana stripes. The design featured thicker red and blue vertical panels, creating a bold visual identity compared to the thinner stripes of previous years. The collar was a simple V-neck style, trimmed in dark navy to complement the sleeves and shoulders. The overall aesthetic was clean yet powerful, reflecting Nike’s early 2000s approach to football kits.
The 2002/03 season was a transitional one for Barcelona. Under coach Louis van Gaal and later Radomir Antić, the club endured inconsistency in La Liga but made a strong run in the UEFA Champions League, reaching the quarterfinals. Juan Román Riquelme, the Argentine playmaker, had joined from Boca Juniors that summer. Despite his immense talent and cult following, his time at Barcelona was short-lived, making shirts with his name and number particularly unique.
