This Celtic 2011/12 home shirt was made by Nike and features Gary Hooper’s distinctive #88 nameset together with UEFA Europa League and UEFA Respect sleeve patches. Worn during a significant season in the club’s modern history, Celtic reclaimed the Scottish Premier League title for the first time since 2007/08.
The design stays faithful to Celtic’s unmistakable green and white hoops while adding subtle detailing throughout. A tonal geometric pattern runs through the green hoops, complemented by a traditional white collar, black detailing and the Tennent’s sponsor across the chest. The black Nike branding and player printing work particularly well against the hoops, while the full Europa League specification gives this example a strong match-era appearance.
The 2011/12 campaign proved to be a major season under Neil Lennon. Celtic recovered from a difficult start to eventually win the Scottish Premier League with 93 points, ending the campaign 20 points clear of Rangers. In Europe, Celtic competed in a Europa League group containing Atlético Madrid, Udinese and Rennes, ultimately finishing third.
Gary Hooper was central to Celtic’s success. Wearing the unusual #88 that became closely associated with his time in Glasgow, the English striker finished as Celtic’s leading league scorer with 24 goals and scored 29 across all competitions during the 2011/12 campaign. Alongside players such as Anthony Stokes, Georgios Samaras, Joe Ledley and Victor Wanyama, Hooper became one of the defining players of Lennon’s early Celtic side.
For collectors, this is a particularly appealing configuration of a classic Celtic shirt. The traditional hoops, Nike design, Hooper #88 printing and UEFA Europa League patches combine with the significance of Celtic’s title-winning 2011/12 season to create a shirt strongly connected to both the player and the era.
