This is the Arsenal 2005/06 home shirt made by Nike, shown here with Henry 14 on the back. It features a special dark redcurrant body, the Highbury commemorative club crest, a gold Nike Swoosh, and O2 as the front sponsor. The shirt also has a UEFA Champions League patch, and the Henry 14 print is perfectly suited to the season, as Thierry Henry was the club captain, star player, and the defining face of Arsenal in this era.
Although it is Arsenal’s home shirt for the season, the design is highly unusual compared with the club’s traditional bright red and white look. Nike used this deep burgundy/redcurrant tone as a tribute to one of Arsenal’s earliest historical colours, tying the shirt directly to the club’s farewell to Highbury.
