This is the Aston Villa FC 2021/22 away shirt made by Kappa. The Kappa Omini logos sit on the chest and sleeves, replacing Nike after Villa’s switch in technical partner. The club crest is rendered in a single claret tone to match the minimalist aesthetic, while the main sponsor Cazoo dominates the centre in bold claret. The shirt also features the small commemorative detail on the upper back referencing Villa’s historic 1981–82 European Cup–winning season, a subtle nod to the club’s greatest achievement.
The base is white, overlaid with thin vertical claret pinstripes that give the shirt a tailored, almost retro-formal feel. Claret sleeve cuffs with a touch of light blue trim tie the look back to Villa’s traditional home colours without overpowering the clean away identity. The overall vibe is sharp and understated — more continental than classic English, which suits Villa’s European heritage theme for that season.
On the back, Coutinho 23 connects this shirt to the short but high-profile loan spell of Philippe Coutinho in early 2022, when his arrival from FC Barcelona brought a wave of excitement and instant impact, including that memorable debut goal against Manchester United.
The 2021/22 campaign was one of transition for Aston Villa, highlighted by the arrival of Steven Gerrard as manager and eye-catching signings like Coutinho. While consistency was elusive, the period carried a sense of renewed ambition and continental aspiration — perfectly mirrored by this refined, European-inspired away design.
