This is the Rangers 2002/03 Home Shirt, featuring Claudio Caniggia #7 during a hugely successful season at Ibrox. The Argentine forward brought flair, experience and unpredictability to Alex McLeish’s side, having become a popular figure with the Rangers support after joining the club in 2001. Caniggia was part of a squad that completed a memorable domestic treble, adding another major chapter to his long career in European football.
Manufactured by Diadora, the 2002/03 home shirt features Rangers’ traditional royal blue base with a distinctive tonal graphic running across the body and sleeves. A blue fold-over collar with red detailing and a contrasting white V-shaped insert gives the shirt a classic early-2000s appearance, while the embroidered Rangers crest and Diadora branding complete the design. The prominent ntl:home Digital TV sponsor across the chest makes the shirt instantly recognisable as a product of this particular era at Ibrox.
The 2002/03 season was one of the most successful in Rangers’ modern history. Alex McLeish’s side completed a domestic treble by winning the Scottish Premier League, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup. The league title was secured in extraordinary circumstances on the final day, with Rangers finishing level on points and goal difference with Celtic but taking the championship by a single goal scored. Caniggia contributed to a squad featuring players such as Barry Ferguson, Ronald de Boer, Mikel Arteta, Shota Arveladze and Lorenzo Amoruso.
For collectors, Claudio Caniggia’s #7 adds considerable appeal to an already memorable Rangers shirt. One of Argentina’s most recognisable players of the 1990s, Caniggia represented his country at three World Cups and enjoyed spells with clubs including River Plate, Roma, Benfica and Boca Juniors before arriving in Scotland. Combined with the distinctive Diadora design and its association with Rangers’ 2002/03 treble-winning campaign, this is an especially evocative shirt from the club’s early-2000s era.
