This Scotland 2016 away shirt was manufactured by adidas and features a striking bright pink colourway with contrasting black detailing. Released during Scotland's 2016–2018 international kit cycle, the design offers a bold alternative to the national team's traditional navy-blue home colours. Black shoulder panels, pink adidas three stripes and a black crew-neck collar give the shirt a distinctive appearance, while the monochrome Scottish Football Association crest complements the colour scheme.
The shirt features a black adidas logo opposite the Scotland crest, with the number 3 positioned centrally on the chest. Adidas' ClimaCool technology is incorporated into the lightweight fabric, while the back of the collar displays a small Saltire, referencing Scotland's national flag.
The reverse features ROBERTSON #3, representing Andrew Robertson during the early stages of his international career. The black nameset sits above a large number 3, both contrasting sharply against the pink fabric. Robertson made his senior Scotland debut in 2014 while playing for Dundee United and subsequently established himself as an important member of the national team. During this kit's period, he was playing for Hull City, before completing his move to Liverpool in the summer of 2017.
The pink colourway also carries a historical connection to Scottish football. Rather than being purely a modern design choice, it draws inspiration from the primrose and pink racing colours of Lord Rosebery, which Scotland famously incorporated into alternative international strips in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Adidas revisited that heritage when introducing the shirt in November 2015 for the upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Under head coach Gordon Strachan, Scotland competed against England, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Malta in qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The campaign included a memorable 2–2 draw against England at Hampden Park and a dramatic 1–0 victory over Slovakia. However, a 2–2 draw away to Slovenia in October 2017 left Scotland third in their group, narrowly missing out on a play-off place on goal difference.
This particular shirt also features 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifying and UEFA Respect sleeve patches, adding competition-specific detailing to the design.
For collectors, the shirt combines an unconventional adidas colourway with a meaningful connection to Scotland's footballing heritage. The Robertson #3 nameset, contrasting black details and World Cup qualifying patches make it a distinctive piece associated with the early international career of a player who would later become Scotland captain and a Champions League and Premier League winner with Liverpool.
