This Real Madrid 2008/09 away shirt was made by adidas and features Guti’s distinctive GUTI.HAZ #14 nameset together with La Liga sleeve detailing. The unusual nameset refers to his full surname, Gutiérrez Hernández, and makes the shirt instantly recognisable as belonging to one of Real Madrid’s most technically gifted home-grown midfielders. Guti spent 15 seasons with the first team, making 542 appearances and winning 15 trophies with the club.

Real Madrid entered 2008/09 as reigning La Liga champions and opened the campaign by winning the Spanish Super Cup against Valencia, overturning a 3–2 first-leg defeat with a dramatic 4–2 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu. The season itself became one of transition, with Bernd Schuster replaced by Juande Ramos in December. Madrid eventually finished second in La Liga behind Barcelona, while their Champions League campaign ended against Liverpool in the Round of 16.

Guti remained an important creative presence in a squad containing Raúl, Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Arjen Robben, Gonzalo Higuaín, Wesley Sneijder and Ruud van Nistelrooy. One of his standout moments of the campaign came away against Espanyol, when he opened the scoring with a superb direct free kick in a 2–0 Real Madrid victory. He also made six appearances in that season’s Champions League campaign.
