This Newcastle United 2001/02 away shirt was made by adidas and features Alan Shearer’s iconic #9 nameset together with FA Premier League sleeve patches. The shirt comes from one of Newcastle’s strongest seasons under Sir Bobby Robson, when the club re-emerged as a major force in English football and secured a return to the Champions League.
The design features a deep blue base with contrasting navy side panels and white detailing around the V-neck collar and shoulders. adidas’ Three Stripes run prominently down the sleeves, while the classic NTL sponsor sits across the chest beneath the Newcastle crest. The combination of the early-2000s adidas construction, embroidered crest and Premier League patches gives the shirt a distinctive look from one of the most fondly remembered Newcastle eras.
Newcastle enjoyed an excellent 2001/02 campaign, even sitting top of the Premier League at Christmas as Robson’s side emerged as surprise title contenders. After an injury-hit previous campaign, the Newcastle captain returned to his prolific best, scoring 23 Premier League goals in 37 appearances and 27 across all competitions. His league tally left him just one goal behind Golden Boot winner Thierry Henry, while the season also saw Shearer pass 100 goals for Newcastle.
