This Manchester United 2017/18 home shirt was made by adidas and features Zlatan Ibrahimović’s #10 nameset. The season marked an unusual change for Ibrahimović, who switched from the #9 he had worn during his first campaign at Old Trafford to #10 following Wayne Rooney’s departure. It would ultimately become his final Manchester United shirt before leaving the club for LA Galaxy in March 2018.
The 2017/18 campaign was José Mourinho’s second season in charge. United finished second in the Premier League, their highest league position since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, and reached the FA Cup final, where they lost 1–0 to Chelsea. The squad featured Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba, David de Gea, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, while United also returned to the Champions League and reached the Round of 16.
Ibrahimović’s story makes the #10 particularly interesting. He began the season recovering from the serious knee injury suffered against Anderlecht in April 2017 and made his comeback against Newcastle in November, only seven months after the injury. His playing time was consequently very limited: he made seven appearances across all competitions during 2017/18 and scored once, a free kick against Bristol City in the League Cup. That proved to be his final goal for Manchester United before his departure for MLS.
