This Manchester United 2015/16 away shirt was made by adidas and features Wayne Rooney’s #10 nameset together with Premier League sleeve patches. The shirt marked adidas’ return as Manchester United’s kit supplier for the first time since the 1991/92 season and comes from Rooney’s second campaign as club captain.
The 2015/16 season was Louis van Gaal’s final campaign at Old Trafford. United finished fifth in the Premier League, but the season ended with silverware as they won the FA Cup for the first time since 2004. In the Wembley final against Crystal Palace, Juan Mata equalised after Jason Puncheon had given Palace the lead before Jesse Lingard’s extra-time volley secured a 2–1 victory, giving United their record-equalling 12th FA Cup at the time.
Rooney remained United’s captain and scored 15 goals across all competitions during the campaign. He also reached another significant Premier League milestone when his winner against Liverpool at Anfield became his 176th league goal for United, setting a new record for the most Premier League goals scored for a single club at the time. His season culminated at Wembley, where he played the full 120 minutes in midfield and lifted the FA Cup for the first time in his career.
