Mauricio Nicolás Martínez is an Argentine professional footballer who was part of Argentina’s men’s soccer squad at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Martínez is a versatile midfielder who can also fill in as a center-back, Martínez developed through the youth ranks at Unión de Santa Fe. He debuted professionally there in the Argentine Primera División.
After his stint at Unión, he joined Rosario Central in mid-2016, where he continued to develop his reputation as a flexible defensive player. In mid-2018, Martínez moved to Racing Club, one of Argentina’s most prominent teams, though injuries at times impacted his continuity.
Selected for Argentina’s U-23 team to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The squad, coached by Julio Olarticoechea, included notable players such as Ángel Correa, Gerónimo Rulli, and Giovani Lo Celso. Martínez was deployed primarily in midfield during the competition.
