Argentina's 2011 home football shirt, manufactured by adidas, features Argentine forward Lionel Messi #10. Worn during the 2011 Copa América hosted by Argentina, the shirt represents an important period in Messi's international career as he continued his pursuit of a first major senior trophy with his national team. Having established himself as one of the world's greatest players at FC Barcelona, Messi entered the tournament following an extraordinary club season in which he helped Barcelona secure both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. Despite his remarkable individual achievements, expectations remained high for him to replicate that success on the international stage.
The shirt features Argentina's iconic sky blue and white vertical stripes, complemented by a traditional white fold-over collar with subtle gold trim. The adidas logo sits centrally on the chest, while the Argentine Football Association crest is displayed within an embroidered shield topped by two gold stars representing the country's World Cup victories in 1978 and 1986. Subtle embossed detailing runs through the white stripes, adding texture to the classic design. White adidas three-stripe detailing extends along the shoulders, while Messi's name and number 10 appear on the back in black lettering. Gold accents around the neckline and adidas' ClimaCool technology complete the shirt.
The 2011 Copa América saw Argentina enter the tournament as hosts and one of the favourites under manager Sergio Batista. Drawn alongside Bolivia, Colombia and Costa Rica, Argentina struggled in their opening matches before securing qualification for the knockout stage with a 3–0 victory over Costa Rica. Their campaign ended in the quarter-finals following a penalty shootout defeat to eventual champions Uruguay after a 1–1 draw. Although Messi did not score during the tournament, he contributed three assists and remained central to Argentina's attacking play. The disappointing elimination intensified scrutiny of the national team, but the experience became another chapter in Messi's journey towards eventually leading Argentina to Copa América glory in 2021 and the FIFA World Cup title in 2022.
